Men's Soccer Tops Coastal Carolina To Claim Second Straight Victory, 3-0

Lane Nets Two Goals In Paladin Win

Conway, S.C. – Senior Dylan Lane netted a pair of goals and freshman goalkeeper Aaron Salinas recorded his first career shutout as Furman topped Coastal Carolina, 3-0, in non-conference men's soccer action Monday afternoon at CCU Soccer Stadium in Conway, S.C.

The victory, Furman's second straight, improved the Paladins to 3-2-0 on the season while Coastal Carolina slipped to 2-3-0.

Furman opened the scoring in the 30th minute when Alfredo Diaz-Santillan unleashed a left-footed strike from inside the box that fellow senior Callum Allison redirected past Coastal Carolina goalkeeper Alex Hare at the 29:54 mark.

Lane doubled the Paladins' lead at the 51:09 mark. The senior from Raleigh, N.C. took a pass from freshman Caleb Johnson on the left side of the box and rocketed a shot into the far-side netting. After the Chanticleers were reduced to 10 men when Evan Howard was sent off in the 60th minute, Lane put the match away with his second goal of the afternoon. Diaz-Santillan curled a cross to Lane just outside the top of the box from deep on the left wing and the midfielder placed a shot into the left-hand corner from almost 18 yards out at 65:26 to cap the scoring.

"It's great to get a win against a good Sun Belt team," said Paladin head coach Doug Allison. "I'm happy for Callum, who scored his first career game-winning goal, and proud of the guys for getting their first shutout. Everyone who played came on and contributed to the win today."

Salinas, a native of Grand Prairie, Texas, stopped five shots to claim his first shutout in just his second career start. Hare turned away six Paladin shots for Coastal Carolina.

Furman posted a 15-9 edge in total shots and 9-5 margin in shots on goal.

The Paladins are back in action on Saturday when they host Gardner-Webb. Kickoff at Stone Soccer Stadium is set for 6 p.m. and admission is free.
