Men's Soccer Earns 1-1 Draw Versus College Of Charleston

Kraus Scores Fourth Goal Of The Season

Greenville, S.C. – Christian Kraus scored in the 76th minute to rally Furman and help the Paladins earn a 1-1 draw with College of Charleston Tuesday night in the Gray Griffin Memorial Game on Seagraves Field at Stone Soccer Stadium.

"We played to honor Gray Griffin tonight and it was great to see us fight back and earn a draw," said Paladin head coach Doug Allison. "Christian Kraus, who has scored in every home game, scored a really nice goal and it was great to see Christian Newman get his first assist. A lot of players are stepping up to help and we are beginning to get some guys healthy. It was a good result against an unbeaten Charleston team."

College of Charleston (2-0-5) jumped in front in the 13th minute on Chris Elliott's second goal of the season. Ezra White played a long ball down the middle of the field to Elliott, who ran at his defender before cutting to the left and lining a shot inside the far-left post.

Furman (4-2-1) controlled much of the possession in the second half and managed to level the match in the 76th minute on Kraus' team-leading fourth goal of the campaign. Senior Josh Hosie sent a pass to Christian Newman on the right edge of the box and the Myrtle Beach, S.C., native picked out Kraus for a tap-in at the far post with 14:14 to play.

The Paladins threatened to claim the win in the final minutes. Their best chance came in the 85th minute when a CofC defender chested Jake Raine's header clear of danger.

Furman outshot the Cougars 16-12 and posted a 7-3 margin in shots on goal. Aaron Salinas notched two saves for Furman while Olly Marshall stopped five shots for College of Charleston

The Paladins are idle until Tuesday, September 26, when they host the Davidson Wildcats at Stone Stadium.
