Wofford Tops Furman On Friday, 3-0

Morrissey Records Third Double-Double Of The Season

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Mary Emily Morgan had a match high 12 kills on Friday evening to propel the Wofford Terriers to a 3-0 (17-25, 14-25, 23-25) victory over the Furman Paladins in Southern Conference volleyball action at Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium.
 
Furman drops to 7-8 overall and 1-3 in the SoCon. With the win, Wofford improves to 14-5 on the season and 6-1 in conference play.
 
Chandler Parker led the Paladin offense for the third consecutive match with 10 kills on .241 hitting. Quinn Morrissey compiled her third double-double of the year on 22 assists and 11 digs. Kennedy Seekford led the team with 15 digs while Ava Augustson contributed 12 and Ashley Stein 10.
 
Morgan's 12 kills led all players for the Terriers with Sarah MacLean and Bri Mahoney both finishing with eight. Taylor Penny added a double-double with 21 assists and 10 digs. Laney Klika totaled a match high 19 digs.
 
Augustson gave Furman an early 6-3 lead in the first set with her kill before Wofford answered to take an 11-9 advantage. The Paladins notched the next two points, capped by Parker's kill, to even the score at 11-11. Furman stayed within two points in the later stages when a solo block from Genevieve Perry made the score 17-15. The Terriers ended the set on an 8-2 run to win, 25-17.

The Paladins were limited to .026 hitting in the second set which saw Wofford begin by scoring eight of the first 10 points as part of a 12-5 run. Furman got as close as 17-12 midway when Izzy Castelloe's solo block put the Paladins within five points. The Terriers outscored the Paladins 8-2 after that for the 25-14 triumph.

Parker compiled six of her kills in the third set on .278 hitting. Wofford started on an 8-3 run and built an early 13-7 lead. Furman rallied back with an 8-5 run midway and cut its deficit down to three points, 18-15, after Morrissey's kill. The Terriers responded with a quick 6-3 run to sit at set point, 24-18. The Paladins staged a late comeback with five straight points to trail by one, 24-23, on a kill by Parker. Wofford captured the set, and match, on the following point.

Furman concluded the match hitting .036 overall and combined for 11 total blocks, marking the fifth time this season it has finished with double digit blocks.
 
The Paladins travel to Charleston, S.C., on Saturday afternoon for a 4 p.m. first serve against The Citadel.
