Furman Falls To Chattanooga On Tuesday, 3-1

Parker Leads Paladins With Match High 23 Kills

GREENVILLE, S.C. – Chard'e Vanzandt led three Mocs in double figure kills Tuesday evening to lift Chattanooga to a 3-1 (23-25, 21-25, 25-16, 15-25) victory over the Furman volleyball team in Southern Conference action at Alley Gymnasium.

Furman, who saw its four-match winning streak come to an end, drops to 12-12 overall and 6-7 in the SoCon. With the win, Chattanooga improves to 16-13 on the season and 6-8 in conference play.

Chandler Parker became the first Paladin to reach 20 or more kills in a match this season after leading Furman with a match high 23 on .327 hitting. Ava Augustson poured in her fifth double-double of the season after compiling 15 kills, on .282 hitting, and 14 digs. Tennyson Gorman had seven kills while Grainne McGrath and Brooke Scheffler both contributed six. The setter trio of Quinn Morrissey, Emily Navarro, and Eva Wheeler combined for 48 assists and 23 digs. Kennedy Seekford led the team with 17 digs.

Vanzandt paced the Mocs offensively with 18 kills. Sydney Jackwin (16 kills, 14 digs) and Elaine Redman (46 assists, 22 digs) both totaled double-doubles. Erin Wyatt provided 12 kills. Paige Gallentine finished with a match high 23 digs.

Chattanooga jumped ahead to a 2-0 lead in the match after taking the opening two sets, 25-23 and 25-21. In the first set, Augustson (8) and Parker (6) teamed up for 14 of the Paladins' 16 kills and Morrissey dished out eight assists to go with seven digs. Parker added six more kills during the second set with Morrissey and Navarro posting a combined 13 assists. Scheffler had a team best six digs.

Furman answered back in the third set with a 25-16 triumph to cut its deficit down to 2-1. Parker hit .583 in the set and led the Paladins with seven kills while Wheeler had nine assists. Augustson collected five digs. Furman held an early 8-7 lead before a 12-6 run propelled it to a 20-13 advantage following a kill from Genevieve Perry. The Paladins recorded the final three points, capped by Parker's kill, to claim the nine-point victory.

The Mocs clinched the match with a 25-15 win in the fourth set. Furman was limited to .093 hitting in the frame with Parker registering four kills with Wheeler dishing out seven assists and Seekford adding five digs.

The Paladins concluded the match hitting .216 overall.
