HUNTINGTON, W.Va.. -- Louisville downed Furman, 5-2, Saturday at the Brian David Fox Tennis Center in Huntington, W.Va.
The Paladins (1-3) scored at flight two singles, where freshman Maeve Thornton topped Lillian Mould, 6-3, 6-3, and at flight six singles, where junior Marissa Pennings entered the lineup and held on for a 6-2, 2-6, 1-0 (12-10) advantage over Berta Miret. Â
The Cardinals (4-2) won two of three doubles matches to score the opening point. Jamilah Snells and Mould posted a 6-3 victory over junior Jess Dawson and Thorton at flight one, and Allie Gretkowski and Lika Peresypkina teamed up to defeat juniors Sara Snyder and Grace Thomas, 6-2, at number two. The flight three match was unfinished with Furman junior Ellie Schulson and freshman Macy Hitchcock leading Miret and Ibifuro Clement, 5-3.Â
Louisville scored four singles points. Snells held off Snyder, 5-7, 6-4, 6-2, at flight one, and Peresypkina beat Schulson, 7-6(0), 6-1, at number three. At flight four, Germany Davis entered the lineup to beat Thomas, 6-2, 7-5, and in the fifth-seeded contest, Gretkowski defeated Hitchcock, 6-4, 6-2.Â
Furman will square off against Marshall on Sunday at 10 a.m. in Huntington, W.Va.Â
