MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Furman was defeated No. 26 Yale, 4-0, and Tulsa, 4-2, Saturday in the final day of the Blue Gray National Tennis Classic, which is being held this weekend in Montgomery, Ala.

The Paladins (2-8) faced the Bulldogs in doubles on Friday night, where Yale won two of three matches to claim the point.  In singles on Saturday morning, junior Sara Snyder quickly topped Orly Ogilvy, 6-2, 6-2, to tie the match at 1-all before the Bulldogs scored at flights three, four, and six to seal the contest.  

Furman won two doubles matches to take the first point against Tulsa (6-7) in the final round of the tournament.  After losing the flight one match, the Paladins rallied for wins at flights two and three.  Junior Ellie Schulson and freshman Macy Hitchcock topped Myroslava Zelenchuk and Saniya Singh, 6-1, at number two, and Snyder and junior Grace Thomas blew past Ana Naranjo Martinez and Tayla Wilmot, 6-2, at number three.

Hitchcock scored a 6-1, 6-1 win versus Zelenchuk at flight five singles to give the Paladins a 2-0 lead before the Hurricane answered with four singles points.  Four of the six singles matches went to a third set in the tight battle.

Furman will travel to Florida for a spring break trip, where the Paladins will play at Florida Atlantic on March 5 at 10 a.m. then square off at North Florida on March 7 at 11 a.m.
