BOCA RATON, Fla. -- Florida Atlantic topped Furman, 5-2, Tuesday to open the Paladins' spring break trip at the Kimberly V. Strauss Tennis Center in Boca Raton, Fla.
The Paladins (2-9) scored at flights three and four singles. Junior Ellie Schulson came from behind for a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory over Carla Galmiche at number three, and junior Grace Thomas held off Lexi Silna, 7-5, 6-4, at number four. Â
The Owls (10-1) won two of three doubles matches to score the opening point. Galmiche and Silna defeated freshman Macy Hitchcock and junior Ellie Schulson, 6-3, at flight two, and Panna Bartha teamed with Amber McGinnis to post a 6-4 advantage over juniors Jess Dawson and Grace Thomas at flight three. In the unfinished flight one contest, Victo Gomez O'Hayon and Millie-Mae Matthews led junior Sara Snyder and freshman Maeve Thorton, 6-5, when the match was called. Â
Florida Atlantic won the remaining singles matches, with Furman forcing a tiebreaker in the first set at flights two and six and the number five contest reaching a third set tiebreaker.Â
Furman will square off at North Florida in Jacksonville, Fla., Thursday at 10 a.m.
