GREENVILLE, S.C.. -- Junior Ellie Schulson posted victories in both singles and doubles to lead the Furman women's team past her sister's Quinnipiac Bobcats, 7-0, Monday at the Mickel Tennis Center in Greenville, S.C.
The Paladins won the top two doubles matches to take the first point. Ellie Schulson teamed with freshman Macy Hitchcock for a 6-1 victory over Jordan Bradley and Anagha Shankar at number one, and juniors Jess Dawson and Sara Snyder defeated Caitlin Flower and Caroline Schulson, 6-3, at flight two. Flight three was unfinished after Furman clinched the point.
In singles action, Furman scored straight-set victories in all six matches. Snyder topped Shankar, 6-2, 6-0, at number one, and Ellie Schulson moved up to flight two, where she beat Vera Sekerina, 6-3, 6-2. Junior Grace Thomas topped Caroline Schulson, 6-3, 6-0, at flight three, and Hitchcock trounced Flower, 6-1, 6-1, at number four. At flight five, junior Marissa Pennings blew past Dominique Yeo, 6-0, 6-1, and Dawson made quick work of Bradley, 6-0, 6-1, at flight six.
Furman will open the Southern Conference season Sunday at 11 a.m. when the Paladins entertain Samford at the Mickel Tennis Center.
