Dintino’s Game-Winner Propels Furman To 17-16 Win At Longwood

Shaw Reaches 100 Career Goals In Victory

Farmville, Va. – Hannah Dintino's goal with 14 seconds remaining in regulation lifted the Furman women's lacrosse team to a 17-16 victory over the Longwood Lancers in Big South action, Wednesday evening at Elizabeth Burger Jackson Field.

Furman, who remains undefeated in conference road games, improves to 7-8 overall and 5-1 in the Big South. With the loss, Longwood drops to 7-8 on the season and 4-2 in conference play.

Dintino, who became the Paladins' all-time leading goal scorer in last Saturday's win at Winthrop, scored her fifth goal of the contest after Katelyn Sousa forced a turnover a few seconds earlier. The fifth year from Westminster, Md., netted the game-winner off Sophie Shaw's fourth assist of the evening to improve Furman to 4-0 in Big South road games this season.

The Paladins fell behind 3-1 less than eight minutes into the contest and trailed 5-2 after the first quarter. Furman tied the game at 7-7 with 5:20 left in the second quarter after back-to-back goals from Dintino before the Lancers closed out the half on a 3-1 run to lead 10-8 at intermission.

The Paladins opened the second half scoring five consecutive goals from Dintino, Shaw, and Reynolds Hester to take its largest lead of the game, 13-10, at the 5:12 mark of the third quarter on Hester's third goal of the game. Longwood answered by tying the game at 14-14 less than four minutes into the fourth quarter until Furman answered with goals from Shaw and Anna Roser to give it a 16-14 advantage just over two minutes later.

The Lancers tied the game again, 16-16, with 2:08 remaining in the contest when Riley McDonald, who finished with a game high 10 points for Longwood, evened the score with her seventh goal of the night. The Lancers had forced the Paladins into a turnover with less than a minute to go in regulation before Sousa, Furman's all-time caused turnover leader, forced her second of the match leading to Dintino's game-winning goal.

Shaw set a new career high with nine points to lead the Paladins on five goals and four assists. Dintino matched Shaw, who reached 100 career goals on Wednesday, with five goals while Hester scored a career best four. Roser totaled four points on three assists and a goal and Paige Harman recorded two goals. Dintino also had season highs of seven draws and three ground balls. Sousa led the team with two caused turnovers. In goal, Lily Rathbun and Sailor Henderson combined for five saves, one ground ball, and one caused turnover.

McDonald paced Longwood with her 10 points after scoring seven times to go with three assists. Emily Cate Smith provided four points on three assists and one goal. Goalie Cybella Smith recorded 15 saves and one ground ball.

Furman, who was held to a season-low seven turnovers on Wednesday, forced the Lancers into 15 while registering 17 draws and holding a 17-7 advantage in ground balls.
