Balanced Effort Leads Furman To 24-5 Win Over Radford In Regular Season Finale

Paladins Break School Single-Game Goal Record

Greenville, S.C. – The Furman women's lacrosse team set a school single-game scoring record on Wednesday evening as eight different Paladins recorded a goal in a 24-5 victory over the Radford Highlanders to conclude the regular season at Paladin Stadium.

Furman finishes the regular season with an 8-9 overall record and 6-2 mark in the Big South. With the loss, Radford drops to 6-10 overall and 3-4 in conference play. The 2024 Big South Women's Lacrosse Championship will be held May 3-5 and hosted by Mercer at Five Star Stadium in Macon, Ga.

The Paladins' 24 goals surpassed the previous school record of 23 which came last season in a road win at Wofford. Furman also tallied 33 points which ranks tied for fourth-most in a game in program history.

A total of eight Paladins scored in the victory led by Anna Roser's seven, falling two shy of her school single-game record. Roser led Furman with eight points while Paige Harman added seven on four goals and three assists. Sophia Buzelis contributed six points (three goals, three assists), and Hannah Dintino (four goals) and Sophie Shaw (three goals, one assist) four apiece. Reynolds Hester, Molly Faul, and Annabelle Biggar all scored once, and Casey Richbourg dished out one assist. Buzelis won six draws and Shaw picked up four ground balls. Mady Cheney collected four of the Highlanders' five goals while Margaret Gleason and Kaitlyn Lytton both had one assist. Goalies Olivia Hunter and Ava Lamanna combined for six saves.

The teams traded the opening six goals of the contest with Radford tying the score at 3-3 with 10:01 left in the opening quarter with Cheney netting each of its initial three goals.

The Paladins ended the first half on an 11-4 run to lead 14-4 at intermission. Furman limited the Highlanders to just one goal in the second half that was highlighted by a scoreless fourth quarter by the Paladin defense. Furman outscored Radford 10-1 in the second half and 21-2 beginning at the 10:00 mark of the first quarter.

The Paladins held an opponent to five goals or less for the first time since a 21-4 triumph last season over Winthrop at Paladin Stadium.

Furman forced the Highlanders into 19 turnovers for the contest while holding a 21-9 advantage in ground balls and 19-13 in draws.
