Greenville, S.C. – Rising junior transfers Tom House and Charles Johnston are set to join the Furman men's basketball program for next season, Paladin head coach
Bob Richey announced on Tuesday afternoon.
House, a 6-foot-7 sharpshooter, arrives at Furman after playing in 51 games and making one start over two seasons at Florida State. He averaged 1.5 points per game as a Seminole and shot 47.1% from behind the three-point line as a sophomore.
"Tom is someone that our program has had familiarity with dating back to early in his high school career at Centerville High School," Richey commented. "Tom will provide our program with character, leadership, and work ethic. With Tom's size, ability to shoot the basketball, and feel for the game, we couldn't be more excited to add him to our program."
The Dayton, Ohio, native scored a career-high nine points and dished out four assists versus Kennesaw State last season. He added seven points against South Florida and grabbed a season-best three rebounds against the Florida Gators. House guided Centerville High School to a state championship as a junior in 2021 and a runner-up finish as a senior the following season. Over three seasons on the varsity squad, he averaged 14.4 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game during his prep career.
Johnston, a 6-foot-11 forward, totaled 13.0 points per game and ranked fifth in NCAA Division II by pulling down 10.7 rebounds per game as a sophomore this past season at Cal State Monterey Bay. He posted 13 double-doubles and became the first player in Otter basketball history to average a double for the entire season.
"We identified Charles early in the spring as someone that could help improve our size and skill in the front court," Richey commented. "Furman fans will be immediately drawn to his personality and character as soon as they interact with him. Charles has a unique blend of size and offensive versatility that will thrive in our offensive system."
A native of Sydney, Australia, Johnston earned second team All California Collegiate Athletic Association honors and College Sports Communicators Academic All-District accolades this past season. He broke the Cal State Monterey Bay single season rebounding record with 278 boards and posted four performances of 20 or more points, including a 20-point, 21-rebound outing against Western Oregon.
Further additions to Furman's 2024-25 roster will be announced shortly.
