HANAHAN, S.C. -- Furman sophomore Audrey Ryu (+5) tied for 38th to lead the Paladins Tuesday in the final round of the 19th annual Cougar Classic at the par 71, 6,269 yard Yeamans Hall Club in Hanahan, S.C.
A native of Dublin, Ohio, Ryu posted a 75 with a birdie on No. 10 in the tournament's last round. Senior Alice Knudson (+6) tied for 44th after carding a 77 with a birdie on No. 9 on Tuesday, while sophomore Kelsi Mauzy (+9) led Furman with a 73 and a team-high four birdies in the final round. She birdied three out of four holes from No. 4 through No. 7 to tie for 53rd. Â
Freshman Eva Ringwald (+10) tied for 57th after adding a 76 in the final round, and junior Liza Lapeyre (+13) shot a 74 with three birdies on Tuesday to move into a tie for 69th. Â
Maryland's Nicha Kanpai (-7) led the field with a 66 on Tuesday to win the tournament by one stroke. Auburn (-5) clinched the team title by one stroke over LSU (-4), while Virginia Tech (+7) finished third. Four teams tied for fourth: Miami (+13), Boston College (+13), Florida (+13), and SMU (+13). The Paladins (+25) finished 13th in the loaded field which included 13 Power 5 teams. Furman defeated Power 5 foes N.C. State (14th place, +29) and Penn State (16th place, +35).
Furman will entertain 13 teams at the 50th Lady Paladin Invitational, Sept. 20-22, in Greenville, S.C.
