Furman Finishes Third, Ryu Sixth At 50th Lady Paladin Invitational

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Sophomore Audrey Ryu (-4) fired a 3-under 69 to place sixth and lead the Furman women's golf team to a third-place finish Sunday in the final round of the 50th Annual Lady Paladin Invitational at the par-72, 6,262 yard Furman University Golf Course in Greenville, S.C.

A native of Dublin, Ohio, Ryu started on No. 1 in the shotgun round and birdied three of her first six holes to turn at 2-under.  She added additional birdies on No. 11 and No. 16 for five birdies in round three.  

Ryu finished four strokes back of individual champion Keira Gonzalez-McCarthy (-8) of Augusta, who sunk a 30-foot birdie on No. 18 to win the tournament by one stroke over the Western Kentucky duo of Averi Cline (-7) and Catie Craig (-7).  Cline tied a tournament record with a 64 in the final round.  

Senior Alise Knudson (+1) carded a 1-under 71 with three birdies, including consecutive birdies on No. 3 and No. 4, to tie for 12th, while freshman Eva Ringwald (+4) finished 19th after shooting a 2-under 70 with five birdies on Sunday.  She birdied three out of four holes from No. 13 through No. 16 to keep the Paladins in the team competition coming down the stretch. 

Freshman Jenna Madden (+3), who played as an individual, tallied a 74 with three birdies.  She posted back to back birdies on No. 9 and No. 10 to tie for 20th.  Junior Liza Lapeyre (+6) tied for 24th after scoring a 76 on Sunday, and freshman Andrea Marin Raga (+11), who also played as an individual, carded a 77 with birdies on No. 12 and No. 17 to tie for 54th.  Sophomore Kelsi Mauzy (+17) finished in a tie for 58th after posting a 77 in round three.

Xavier (-1) won the tournament by six strokes over Western Kentucky (+5).  Furman (+7) led the field with a 2-under 286 on Sunday to finish third, followed by Old Dominion (+11) and UNC Wilmington (+11), who tied for fourth in the 13-team field. 

Furman will compete at Old Dominion's Evie Odom Invitational in Virginia Beach, Va., Oct. 4-6.
