Head coach
Bob Richey's Paladins enter Wednesday's game at 13-2 overall and 1-1 in SoCon play following an 84-67 loss at UNC Greensboro on Saturday afternoon that snapped Furman's six-game winning streak. Kenyon Giles scored 25 points to lead the Spartans, who shot 52.2% from three-point range against a Paladin defense which had not allowed a single opponent to shoot better than 33.3% from behind the arc over the season's first 14 games. Senior
PJay Smith Jr. led Furman with 24 points and junior
Ben VanderWal pulled down a game-high nine rebounds.
Smith, who averages 17.2 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game, ranks in the top 25 in NCAA Division I in three-point field goal percentage (46.5%), three-point baskets per game (3.54/game), and total three-point baskets (46). He has spearheaded a Paladin defense that has allowed just 65.0 points per game and held the opposition to 27.0% shooting from three-point range, which ranks third in the country.
The Citadel comes into Wednesday's contest at 5-8 overall and 0-2 in the league after dropping an 81-68 decision to Chattanooga at McAlister Field House this past weekend. The Bulldogs, who are coached by former Furman assistant Ed Conroy, are led by forward Brody Fox's 16.6 points per game.
