Roller's Goal Helps Furman Earn Draw Against ETSU, 1-1

Paladins Travel To Chattanooga On Thursday

Greenville, S.C. – Junior Norah Roller scored in the 60th minute to rally the Paladins from a second-half deficit as Furman and ETSU played to a 1-1 draw in Southern Conference women's soccer action Friday night on Seagraves Field at Stone Soccer Stadium in the annual "Pink Game" for cancer awareness.

ETSU (8-2-5, 3-0-3 SoCon) took the lead less than eight minutes into the second half when Jada Cooper redirected Ruby Teixeira's corner kick into the Paladin net for her fourth goal of the season. Furman leveled the match at 59:41 when freshman Jessica Mattson connected with Roller on the left side of the box and the Birmingham, Ala., native hammered a shot inside the near post from close range for her team-leading sixth score of the year.

Furman (8-2-4, 2-1-3) pushed forward in search of the winning goal, but Addison Yelton saved Emma Sexton's goal-bound shot in the 79th minute and Bri Pinasco missed high from the right side of the box with less than two minutes remaining.

"I was proud of the way responded and had a much better second half," said Paladin head coach Andrew Burr. "It would have been nice to get a win, but a tie is fine this time of year against a very good ETSU team."

The Buccaneers outshot Furman 11-5 in the opening half and forced the Paladins into five saves, including a sprawling effort by Ellie Herrmann to save a shot off the line in the 19th minute. Furman flipped the script over the final 45 minutes holding an 8-3 edge in total shots in the second half.

Goalkeeper Reese DeJong finished with five saves for the Paladins while Yelton recorded three saves for the Bucs. ETSU finished with a 14-13 edge in total shots and 7-4 margin in shots on goal.

The Paladins hit the road this coming week for a visit to SoCon foe Chattanooga on Thursday, October 16, at 6 p.m.
