Diego Hernandez has been named Southern Conference Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week and selected to the Top Drawer Soccer National Team of the Week, it was announced on Tuesday.
Hernandez netted two match-winning goals and added two assists while leading No. 11 Furman to a 2-0-0 record this past week. The Mesquite, Texas, native began his week by scoring the game-winning goal in the 82nd minute of the Paladins' 3-2 victory over Presbyterian last Tuesday night. After being named to the Hermann Trophy Watch List in the midweek, Hernandez assisted on a pair of first-half goals before converting from the penalty spot in the 70th minute to propel Furman to a 3-2 Southern Conference win versus ETSU on Saturday night.
Through 13 matches this season, Hernandez ranks second in the SoCon with seven goals and leads the league with seven assists and 21 total points.
Furman, currently 8-1-4 overall and 1-0-1 in SoCon play, travels to Lexington, Va., to face the VMI Keydets at Patchin Field on Saturday, October 18, at 3 p.m.
