WILMINGTON, N.C. -- Furman sophomore Jenna Madden (+2) is tied for 39th after Friday's first round of UNC Wilmington's Landfall Tradition, which is being held at the par 72, 6,106 yard Country Club of Landfall's Pete Dye Course in Wilmington, N.C.
A native of McKinney, Texas, Madden teed off on No. 10 and birdied No. 17 and No. 18 to turn at 1-under. She added an additional birdie on No. 6 to conclude the day 2-over par.
Sophomore Andrea Marin Raga (+4) and freshman Ava Hanneman (+4) each carded a 74 and are tied for 63rd entering Saturday's second round. Marin Raga notched three birdies in the round. Freshman Olivia Hasselbach (+5) recorded a 77 with a team-high four birdies to tie for 68th, while junior Audrey Ryu (+8) posted an 80 to tie for 92nd.
Four players are tied for the individual lead after each fired a 69 in round one.
No. 39 SMU (-1) was the only team to shoot under par for the day and holds a -stroke lead over 24th-ranked North Carolina (E) and No. 28 Kentucky (E). No. 20 UCF (+1), 16th-ranked South Carolina (+1), and No. 38 Indiana (+1) are tied for fourth. The Paladins (+15) sit in 18th place after the opening round.
The 54-hole tournament continues on Saturday beginning at 8:30 a.m. The Paladins will tee off on No. 10 starting at 8:30 a.m. and will play in a group with Illinois and Notre Dame.
