Briyah Drayton has been selected as the Southern Conference Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, it was announced on Tuesday.
Drayton netted a pair of goals, including the match-winner, to propel Furman to a 6-2 victory over The Citadel on Sunday afternoon as the Paladins wrapped up a first-round bye for the SoCon Women's Soccer Championship in the regular season finale. The Apopka, Fla., native found the back of the net in the 80th minute to break a 2-2 deadlock and added an insurance goal seven minutes later for the Paladins, who scored four goals in the final 11 minutes against the Bulldogs.
Furman, 9-3-5 overall and 3-2-4 in the SoCon, earned the No. 5 seed in this week's SoCon Tournament. The Paladins are set to face No. 4 seed Chattanooga in quarterfinal round action at 8 p.m. ET on Friday at Samford Track & Soccer Stadium in Birmingham, Ala. The winner will advance to a 2 p.m. SoCon semifinal round match on Sunday in Birmingham.
