Guard Duo Will Join The Paladins In 2026-27

Greenville, S.C. – Furman men's basketball has added guards Cameron Elwer and Jerrin Samuel to its roster for the 2026-27 season, it was announced on Thursday by Paladin head coach Bob Richey.

Elwer, a native of Delphos, Ohio, captured first team All-Ohio honors and was runner-up for the state's prestigious Mr. Basketball award as a junior in 2025. Playing for his father, Aaron Elwer, at Delphos St. John's High School, he led his team to a second consecutive Midwest Athletic Conference title, while pouring in 27.8 points per game, grabbing 7.1 rebounds per contest, and dishing out 4.4 assists per game. The 6-foot-2 Elwer led the state in three-point shooting at 55.8%, the highest percentage in Ohio history, and ranked second in free throw percentage at 93%. A two-time Midwest Athletic Conference Player of the Year and three-time District 8 Player of the Year, the Blue Jay's all-time leading scorer guided his team to a 23-3 record and a trip to the regional finals. Elwer played this past summer for coach Brook Cupps and Midwest Basketball Club 3SSB.

"We are very pleased to welcome Cameron Elwer to the Furman men's basketball family," said Richey. "Cameron brings not only impressive skills and basketball intellect but also a character and work ethic that align perfectly with our culture. He is an elite shooter that also possesses a toughness that will be a great addition to our team. We look forward to his development and to the impact he will make in a Paladin uniform."

Samuel, a native of Winder, Ga., plays his prep basketball for coach Travis McDaniel at Winder-Barrow High School and is the No. 5 ranked player in the 2026 class in the state of Georgia by PrepHoops. The 6-foot-5 guard earned second team Atlanta Journal-Constitution AAAAA All-State accolades and surpassed 1,000 career points as a junior in 2025 while averaging 18 points, eight rebounds, and four assists per game. Samuel shot 45% from three-point range en route to earning Region 8-AAAAA Player of the Year honors, guiding Winder-Barrow to a 26-4 record, and helping the Bulldoggs reach the state quarterfinals. A three-time all-region choice and 2021-22 region freshman of the year, he led his school to a region title in 2022 and state final four appearance in 2024. Samuel played this summer for Anthony Edwards 5 and coach Martell Cole.

"Jerrin can really stretch the floor and has a unique ability to make everyone else around him better," said Richey. "His athleticism, motor, and feel for the game will allow him to impact the game defensively. Like many of our players, he comes from a terrific high school program coached by Travis McDaniel where he has experienced hard work and winning. Jerrin has a leadership gift, and we're excited about the impact he will have on our team and campus."
