COLUMBIA, S.C. -- Senior Carson Williams posted a sub-4:00 mile, and the Furman indoor track and field teams recorded 15 top-10 finishes Saturday at the USC Invite in Columbia, S.C., on Saturday.

Williams, who was one of five Paladins in the top 10 in the mile, placed third with a time of 3:58.26 after being paced by senior Matt Smith over the first 800m and freshman Colin Eckerman, who ran unattached, over the next 400m.  Junior Luke Taylor finished fourth with a season-best time of 4:09.46 followed by freshman Ryan Smith in fifth with a PR of 4:09.60.  Senior Foster Wilfong turned in a personal-best time of 4:12.20 to place eighth, followed by sophomore Owen Shifflett in ninth place with a PR of 4:12.22.

On the women's side, Furman tallied ten top-10 finishes, with freshman Nysa Males taking second with a time of 4:43.98 to lead four top-10 milers.  Freshman Zoie Lamanna crossed the line in 4:56.65 for seventh place, followed by junior Jenna Mulhern in eighth place at 4:56.70.  Senior Callie Harper placed tenth with a personal-best time of 4:57.85.

In the women's 400m, freshmen Claire Cook and Jais Ward finished fifth and sixth, respectively.  Cook posted a time of 57.48, while Ward clocked in at 58.95.  Junior Emma Jones led the Paladins in the 3,000m, finishing third with a PR of 9:40.94.  Senior Bethany Graham finished seventh at 10:12.51, and freshman Joiner Evans placed ninth at 10:28.70.  Freshman Katie Sobieraj ran in section two, where she finished third with a personal-best time of 10:13.10. 

Next weekend, Furman will compete at the Southern Conference Championship on Friday and Saturday in Lexington, Va.
