CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Furman men's tennis team recorded its third road victory of the season Saturday afternoon with a 4-2 triumph over the Queens (N.C.) Royals in non-conference action from the Howard Levine Tennis Center.
Furman improves to 3-4 on the season while Queens (N.C.) drops to 2-5 overall.
For the fourth straight match, the Paladins captured the doubles point after picking up a pair of 6-4 victories at No. 1 and No. 3.
Nicolas Dispas and
Nico Snyder topped Jan Montero Diaz and Lukas Gosselin in the No. 3 match while
Elijah Poritzky and
Matt Kandel, playing at No. 1, clinched the point for Furman.
The Paladins followed with singles wins in three of the five completed matches to claim the 4-2 victory. After the Royals won at No. 2 and No. 3 to take a 2-1 lead, Furman answered with three consecutive victories. In the No. 6 match,
Walker Allen won in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1, versus Gosselin.
John Rado followed at No. 4 with a 7-6(5), 6-3 victory against Gavin Ryan. Poritzky secured the match for the Paladins following his three-set victory at No. 1 over Laurenz Blickwede, 3-6, 6-2, 6-2.
Dispas was leading his No. 5 match against Luke Coppage, 6-4, 5-7, 2-3, when Furman clinched the match.
