GREENVILLE, S.C. – Paige Harman paced the Furman women's lacrosse team Saturday with six points to lead the Paladins to a 15-11 road victory over the Kennesaw State Owls at Fifth Third Stadium.
Furman improves to 2-0 and starts the season with back-to-back victories for the first time since 2020. With the loss, Kennesaw State drops to 2-4 overall.
Harman led all players with a game high six points after tying her career best four goals to go with two assists.
Anna Roser scored a game high five goals and
Sofija Buzelis totaled four points on three goals and an assist. Reigning Big South Freshman of the Week
Lily Toole provided three points on two goals and an assist.
Skylar Hilmer and
Caroline Smith both won five draws, while
Reynolds Hester picked up two ground balls and Toole caused one turnover.
Playing in her first collegiate game, goalie
Madigan Brewer finished with 11 saves.
Shannon Harrington led the Owls with five points on four goals and one assist while Hannah Davis added a hat trick. In goal, Natalia Cruz recorded six saves.
Harman scored three of her team best four goals in the fourth quarter as the Paladins outscored the Owls, 5-2, over the final 15 minutes en route to their sixth straight win in the series dating back to 2018. Lavona Watkins tied the score at 11-11 with 12:04 remaining before Furman closed out the contest with four straight goals. Buzelis broke the tie less than two minutes later as the Paladins held Kennesaw State without a goal over the final 12 minutes.
Harman scored twice during the final 4:53 with her fourth, and final, of the afternoon sealing the 15-11 win.
The Owls opened the game on a 3-1 run before Furman answered with three straight goals to take a 4-3 lead at the 3:46 mark of the first quarter. The Paladins built a two-goal advantage twice in the second quarter and held a 7-6 lead at halftime. Furman opened the second half on a 3-0 run with goals from Roser and
Lilly Pons to take its largest lead of the game, 10-6, with 10:33 to go.
The Paladins held a 17-13 advantage in draws and finished the contest with six ground balls and forcing Kennesaw State into six turnovers.
