Greenville, S.C. – Northern Iowa plated four runs in the top of the seventh inning and Anna Wischnowski hurled a one-hit shutout as the Panthers downed Furman, 4-0, in the finale of the Furman Softball Classic on Sunday afternoon.
With the game scoreless after six innings, UNI's Drew Hinrichs launched a solo home run to open the top of the seventh on a 2-1 pitch to give the Panthers a 1-0 lead. Kate Lappe and Katy Olive followed with singles to chase Furman starter
Lily O'Bryan. Katelyn Callahan, Addison Brunner, and Skylar Benesh each batted in a run against reliever
Angelina Ricciardi to extend the UNI (6-3) advantage to 4-0.
Furman's
Kate Stoltzfus spoiled Wischnowski's no-hit bid with a two-out single in the bottom of the seventh but she retired the next batter to finish the complete-game shutout. Wischnowski, who improved to 4-1 in the circle, walked two and struck out two on the day.
O'Bryan (0-3) took the loss for Furman after allowing three runs on four hits in six-plus innings. The Cleveland, Tenn., native issued three walks and fanned five batters.
