Furman To Travel To General Hackler Championship

Clark Akers & Harris Barth

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The Furman men's golf team will compete at the General James Hackler Championship, which is being presented by Carolina Wealth Advisors and hosted by Coastal Carolina Sunday through Tuesday at the par 72, 7,233 yard The Dunes Golf & Beach Club in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

The 54-hole tournament begins on Sunday at 8:05 a.m. with teams teeing off on No. 1 and No. 10.  The Paladins will tee off on No. 10 beginning at 8:55 a.m. and will play in a group with North Florida and College of Charleston in the first round.  Monday and Tuesday's rounds are slated for 8 a.m.

Furman will be joined in the 16-team field by host Coastal Carolina, Auburn, Baylor, College of Charleston, Duke, East Tennessee State, High Point, Kent State, Liberty, Louisville, Missouri, N.C. State, Nevada, North Florida, and Wake Forest.

The Paladin lineup for the General Hackler Championship includes junior Harris Barth, senior Will Morlan, senior Trey Diehl, junior Clark Akers and junior Zach Frazer.

"The General Hackler Championship is an event that we have been lucky to have the opportunity to play in each year," said Furman head coach Matt Davidson, who is in his seventh year at the head of the Paladin program.  "It is a fantastic field and a challenging and fair golf course.  The Dunes Golf and Beach Club will test you tee to green, and the wind should be up this week, so good ball striking will be at a premium."

Admission to the tournament is free and fans are welcome.  Live tournament scoring for the event will be available at https://results.golfstat.com/public/leaderboards/gsnav.cfm?pg=team&tid=29377.

Furman opened the 2025 spring season at the Gators Invitational, where Morlan tied for fourth to lead the Paladins to a sixth-place finish, then last week at the Seminole Intercollegiate, Morlan again paced Furman by tying for tenth at 2-under.

The Paladins concluded the 2024 fall season by finishing as runner-up at the 54th Furman Intercollegiate.  The Paladins placed three players among the top eight, including Barth (-6) and Clark Akers (-6), who tied for fifth, and Diehl (-5), who placed eighth.
