GREENVILLE, S.C. -- No. 38 Furman blanked Brown, 4-0, Monday at the Mickel Tennis Center on the campus of Furman University.
With the victory, the Paladins (13-2, 2-0 SoCon) extend their winning streak to eight matches, while Brown drops to 8-6.
Furman won the bottom two doubles matches, both 6-0, to claim the doubles point. Senior Jess Dawson and sophomore Macy Hitchcock swept Dani Ben-Abraham and Bella Hu at flight two, and seniors Alexa Griffith and Marissa Pennings defeated Ali Maguy and Anne Yang at flight three. The number one match was unfinished, with Paladin seniors Ellie Schulson and Sara Snyder leading Addison Ahlstrom and Lindsey Hofflander, 5-2.
The Paladins scored three quick singles points in straight sets for the victory. At flight one, Snyder blew past Gabby Soliman, 6-2, 6-1, and at number four, Schulson recorded a 6-3, 6-1 advantage over Yang. Pennings held on to clinch the match by topping Maguy, 6-1, 7-6(1) at flight two.
The remaining three singles matches were unfinished. At flight three, Dawson won set one, 7-5, over Ben-Abraham, and led, 5-4 in the second set, while Hitchcock was even at flight five after taking the first set over Hu, 6-2, then dropping set two, 6-4. In the number six contest, Sari Woo captured a 7-5 victory in set one, but senior Grace Thomas led set two, 3-2, for Furman.
The Paladins will honor their six seniors on Friday when they square off against Charlotte at 3 p.m. at the Mickel Tennis Center.
