JOHNS ISLAND, S.C. -- Sophomore Audrey Ryu (+1) shot a 1-over 73 to tie for 20th to lead the Furman women's golf team Sunday in the opening round of the Briar's Creek Invitational, which is being hosted by College of Charleston at the par 72, 6,152 yard Golf Club at Briar's Creek in Johns Island, S.C.
Due to predicted inclement weather in the Lowcountry on Monday, the tournament has been shortened to 36 holes and will resume with an 8:45 a.m. shotgun start on Tuesday.
A native of Dublin, Ohio, Ryu posted a birdie on No. 6 in round one. Freshman Eva Ringwald (+3) recorded a 75 with birdies on No. 7 and No. 11 to tie for 38th, while freshman Jenna Madden (+10) and senior Alise Knudson (+10) are tied for 88th after each carded an 82 on Sunday. Madden birdied No. 7 in the opening round. Sophomore Kelsi Mauzy (+11) shot an 83 with birdies on No. 1 and No. 4 to tie for 92nd.
Kent State's Isabella Goyette (-6) holds a one-stroke individual lead after firing a 66 in the tournament's opening round.
Sixth-ranked Florida State (-8) smoked the field with a 280 on Sunday. Kent State (+1) is six strokes back in second place, while No. 39 N.C. State (+3) and 37th-ranked Purdue (+3) are tied for third. Maryland (+5) rounds out the top five. The Paladins (+24) are 16th in the field, which includes six ranked teams.
