Furman Notches Shutout Of Bob Jones To Claim Second Straight Victory, 5-0

Five Different Paladins Score In Friday Night Triumph

Greenville, S.C. – Five different Paladins found the back of the net and Furman held Bob Jones without a shot in a 5-0 victory over the Bruins in non-conference women's soccer action Friday night on Seagraves Field at Stone Soccer Stadium.

With its second straight victory, Furman improved to 2-1-0 on the season.

"Tonight was a great opportunity for everyone to play significant minutes and for our staff to look at a lot of different combinations," said Paladin head coach Andrew Burr. "Hopefully the experienced and confidence gained from this match will make us a deeper team going forward. We are thankful to everyone who came out to Stone Stadium tonight. Furman versus Bob Jones is definitely a good event for this community."

Furman grabbed the lead with the first of three first half goals at the 9:09 mark when Jaleah Simmons netted her second goal of the season off an assist from Maddie Massie. Freshman Katelyn Nixon doubled the advantage with her first collegiate goal at 24:12 as she collected the ball outside the box on the left side and lofted a shot inside the far post. Briyah Drayton setup the final goal of the half by feeding a pass to Callah Dando in the box and the freshman tucked her shot into the bottom right-hand corner at 28:53 to put the Paladins in front 3-0 at intermission.

Junior Norah Roller opened her season account at 86:05 by intercepting a pass along Bob Jones' back line and shooting top shelf on the right side. Jenny Jacobson, also a junior, capped the scoring with 40 seconds remaining by poking a Roller pass under BJU goalkeeper Margaret Cummings from inside the six-yard box for the final 5-0 margin.

Furman totaled 23 shots in each half to post a 46-0 margin in total shots and finished the match with a 19-0 advantage in shots on goal. The Paladins did not allow the Bruins to possess the ball inside the Furman box until the final 16 minutes of the match.

Sophomores Reese DeJong and Kaitlyn Urbanek combined on the shutout in goal for Furman. Cummings recorded 14 saves in 90 minutes of action for Bob Jones.

Furman concludes its season-opening, four-match homestand on Sunday afternoon when it celebrates Senior Day versus the Charleston Southern Buccaneers. Kickoff is slated for 2 p.m. with the senior class set to be honored at approximately 1:45 p.m. Admission to Sunday's match at Stone Stadium is free.
