Evan James

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman wide receiver Evan James has been chosen the Stats Perform FCS National Freshman Player of the Week for his performance in Furman's 28-24 win at Campbell on Saturday.

A native of Apopka, Fla., James caught a 30-yard touchdown pass to give the Paladins the lead with 4:50 remaining in the game.  The reception capped a 10-catch performance in which he set a Furman freshman record with 134 receiving yards and produced six first downs with his receptions.  In three games, James has caught 25 passes for 291 yards and two touchdowns.

This is the Paladins' second national recognition of the season, as placekicker/punter Ian Williams was honored as the national special team player of the week after Furman's 23-21, season opening victory over William & Mary.
