Joshua Stoneking today was named Southern Conference Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in the Paladins' 28-24 road win over Campbell on Saturday.
Stoneking, a 6-foot-3, 264-pound redshirt sophomore, played a pivotal role in Furman's victory, totaling six tackles, including 4.5 for a loss of 21 yards, and a forced fumble. Â He registered 2.5 sacks for a loss of 15 yards, his final one coming on fourth down at the Furman 17 with 16 seconds remaining, giving the Paladins the ball and the victory.
A Raleigh, N.C., product, he has 19 tackles and is the SoCon leader in tackles for-loss (8.5) and sacks (4.5) thru three games.
Idle this coming Saturday, Furman (2-1) kicks off Southern Conference play on Sept. 27 at Samford.
