Reese DeJong has been named Southern Conference Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week and was named to the Top Drawer Soccer National Team of the Week, it was announced on Tuesday.
DeJong, a native of Huntersville, N.C., helped Furman extend its unbeaten run to 10 matches with a 1-0 shutout of two-time defending SoCon regular season champion and preseason league favorite Western Carolina on Friday night in Cullowhee, N.C. The sophomore stopped a career-high 15 shots, including a diving save of Sofia Goclowski's penalty kick in the 21
st minute, to notch her fourth shutout of the season. Her 15 saves are tied for the eighth highest total by an NCAA Division I goalkeeper this season and most by a SoCon goalkeeper.
Furman's win at Western Carolina marked the Catamounts' first home regular season conference loss since the Paladins scored a 2-1 victory in Cullowhee on September 24, 2023. With the victory, the Paladins improved to 8-1-2 overall and 2-0-1 in league play this season.
Furman concludes its three-match road trip on Thursday night when it travels to Greensboro, N.C. to face the UNC Greensboro Spartans in SoCon action. Kickoff at UNCG Soccer Stadium is slated for 6 p.m. and the match will be streamed live on ESPN+.
