Furman's Ervin Named SoCon Player Of The Week

Scored 41 Points In Wins Over UNC Greensboro, Western Carolina

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman's Alyssa Ervin has been named Southern Conference Player of the Week, the league announced today.

Ervin, a 5-foot-11 sophomore guard, keyed Furman to SoCon wins over reigning regular season and tournament champion UNCG (69-56) and Western Carolina (69-38) by scoring 41 points (20.5 ppg), spiced by 6-fo-13 shooting from 3-point range, and contributing 11 rebounds (5.5 rpg), five steals, three blocks, and a steal in the two victories.

She tallied a career high 24 points against UNCG, helping Furman erase a 10-point halftime deficit en route to the 13-point victory, which halted UNCG's seven-game winning streak and the Spartans' 16-game winning streak versus SoCon opposition that spanned 362 days. She scored a team leading 17 points that helped ignite a second half comeback that swamped Western Carolina and extended Furman's winning streak versus the Catamounts in Greenville to 14 games.

The Galax, Va., native and Elon transfer now in her first season at Furman, Ervin is averaging 13.1 points and 3.1 rebounds per game.  She is the Paladins' top free throw shooter (.758%).

Ervin is the second Paladin to capture league player of the week honors this season, joining forward Clare Coyle, who claimed in the honor two weeks ago.

Furman (11-8, 3-1 SoCon) has won five of its last six games and plays a pair of league road games this week beginning with a Thursday, 7:00 p.m. matchup at Mercer.
