CLEMSON, S.C. -- Furman junior Brayden Seymour ran a sub-4:00 mile, sophomore Joe Womack broke his own Paladin record in the 400m, and senior Colton Kempney clocked a new personal best to win the men's 5,000m Friday in the opening day of the Bob Pollock Invitational at the Clemson Indoor Track Complex in Clemson, S.C.
A native of Oviedo, Fla., Seymour was the top collegiate finisher in the mile after crossing the line with a PR of 3:59.55. He placed third overall to lead five Paladins in the race, including graduate student Albert Velikonja, who finished third with a personal-best time of 4:00.04.
Womack, who hails from Cartersville, Ga., turned in a time of 49.46 in the 400m, breaking his own previous program record of 49.69, which he set on January 17.
Furman placed four runners among the top five in the men's 5,000m. Senior Luke Taylor paced the Paladin contingent, helping Kempney, a native of Castorland, N.Y., to the win with a PR of 14:14.61. Sophomore Rives Boltwood also turned in a personal-best time of 14:17.53 to finish second. Freshman Ty Jones finished four in his collegiate debut, posting a time of 14:36.31, and junior Trevor Coggin finished placed fifth at 14:38.46.
The Paladin women competed in just one event on Friday. Senior Camryn Wennersten was the top collegiate finisher in the mile with a time of 4:44.24.
The meet will conclude on Saturday, weather permitting, with Furman competing in the men's 200m, men's and women's 800m, men's and women's 3,000m, and women's 4x400m.
