Box Score CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – North Carolina blanked the Furman men's tennis team, 7-0, in non-conference action Thursday afternoon at Chewning Tennis Center.
Furman drops to 1-4 overall while North Carolina improves to 3-1 on the season.
The Tar Heels captured the doubles point and took a 1-0 lead in the match behind wins at No. 1 and No. 3. The 50
th-ranked combination of Niels Ratiu and Chris Xu topped
Nico Snyder and
Nicolas Dispas, 6-3, at No. 1, and Roan Jones and Anthony Wright won their No. 3 match over
Alex Han and
Theophile Joly, 6-1. In the No. 2 contest, the 89
th-ranked duo of Lian Mayew and Kase Schinnerer were leading
Landon Ecarma and
Evan Duggal, 5-3, when North Carolina won the point.
The Tar Heels followed by winning six singles matches to secure the 7-0 victory. Xu topped Snyder in the No. 1 match, 6-2, 6-3, and Jones, ranked 104
th nationally, won his No. 2 match against Joly, 6-1, 6-3. Mayew, who is ranked 84
th nationally, registered a 6-2, 6-3 triumph versus
Evan Duggal, and Ratiu, ranked 59
th nationally, stopped Allen at No. 4, 6-4, 6-2. Constantinos Djakouris won his No. 5 matchup against Dispas, 6-1, 6-4, while Schinnerer won at No. 6 over Ecarma, 6-1, 6-2.
The Paladins head to Conway, S.C., next weekend, February 13-14, to face Coastal Carolina and William & Mary.
