Furman Suffers First Home Loss To Campbell, 11-9

GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Furman women's lacrosse team suffered its first home loss of the season Monday evening to the Campbell Camels, 11-9, in non-conference action from Paladin Stadium.

Furman drops to 2-2 on the season while Campbell improves to 6-1 overall.

Shae Insinga recorded her third straight game with at least four goals, leading the Paladin offense with five points on five goals. Lily Mosser dished out two assists while Reynolds Hester added one goal and one assist. Skylar Hilmer provided three ground balls and two draws and Lilly Dyer added three ground balls. Charlotte Kent and Zoe Milmoe both caused two turnovers. In goal, Sam Melville and Madigan Brewer combined for nine saves and one ground ball.

Emma Penkunas scored a team high three goals for the Camels and McKenna Duncan and Delaney Nicolaus both had two assists. Goalie Adria Welsh finished with four saves and three ground balls.

Furman kept Campbell off the scoreboard in the first quarter, holding a 1-0 lead following Caroline Smith's goal with 7:04 remaining. The Camels outscored the Paladins, 6-2, in the second quarter to hold a three-goal advantage at halftime before opening the second half with three of the first four goals to build a 9-4 lead with just over one minute remaining in the period.

Furman cut its deficit to three goals twice in the first 10 minutes of the fourth quarter with the last coming at 10-7 when Hester scored at the 4:29 mark. Campbell answered just over a minute later to put its lead back at four goals. Bella Raynish and Emily Muir closed out the contest with back-to-back goals for the Paladins over the final 2:50 to put the final score at 11-9.

Furman concluded the contest with 20 shots, 19 ground balls, seven caused turnovers, and three draws.
