Furman Drops 15-5 Decision To St. Bonaventure

GREENVILLE, S.C. – Rylee Gonzalez, Megan Schillinger, and Brooke Piper each scored four goals to lift the St. Bonaventure Bonnies to a 15-5 victory over the Furman Paladins in non-conference women's lacrosse action, Wednesday evening from Paladin Stadium.

Furman drops to 2-3 on the season while St. Bonaventure improves to 4-3 overall.

Shae Insinga led the Paladins with a hat trick, marking the fourth straight contest in which the graduate student has scored at least three goals. Caroline Smith and Lily Toole both netted a goal, while Avery Adeli, Reynolds Hester, and Allie Kandel all had one assist. Charlotte Kent picked up three ground balls and caused two turnovers along with Grace Gibson. Goalies Madigan Brewer and Sam Melville combined for 10 saves, five ground balls, and one caused turnover.

The trio of Gonzalez, Schillinger, and Piper accounted for 12 of the Bonnies' 15 goals with Grace Hollenbeck, Sidney Van Tassel and Gracie Williams each dishing out two assists. In goal, Judy Mahoney finished with seven saves and one ground ball.

The teams traded the opening four goals of the contest with Insinga and Smith finding the back of the net for Furman. Smith's goal at the 10:09 mark of the first quarter evened the score at 2-2. The Paladins would then be held scoreless for nearly 20 minutes before Insinga's second goal with just under six minutes remaining before intermission cut their deficit down to 6-3. St. Bonaventure closed out the half scoring four straight goals to lead 10-3 at halftime.

The Bonnies added two more goals to start the second half when Furman got back-to-back goals from Toole and Insinga to make the score 12-5 with 14:00 left in the contest. St. Bonaventure ended the game on a 3-0 run to put the final score at 15-5.

The Paladins held a 16-14 advantage in ground balls and concluded the contest with 20 shots and seven caused turnovers. Furman also forced the Bonnies into 18 turnovers.
