Greenville, S.C. – Furman opens the Southern Conference portion of its 2026 softball schedule this weekend when it visits Cullowhee, N.C., for a three-game series against the Western Carolina Catamounts.
The weekend series is set to begin with a 1 p.m. doubleheader at the Catamounts Softball Complex on Saturday. The series finale is slated for a 1:30 p.m. first pitch on Sunday. Saturday's games will be streamed on ESPN+ and live statistics will be available for all three games. Furman (5-22) is coming off a doubleheader split versus Big South Conference power USC Upstate on Tuesday at Pepsi Stadium. The Spartans outslugged Furman, 11-8, in game one before the Paladins rolled to a 14-2 run-rule triumph in game two.

Sylvia Burroughs leads the Paladins in batting average (.348), extra base hits (9), RBI (15), slugging percentage (.565), walks (11), and on base percentage (.427) entering league play. The senior first baseman has also homered three times and fielded at a .993 clip in 26 games at first base.

AB Cipalla and freshman
Eden Frederick have each batted .328 through the first 27 games while
Kate Stoltzfus has driven in 13 runs and
Kristyn Embler has batted in 12.
Furman holds a 45-22 lead in the all-time series versus Western Carolina but dropped two of its three games in Cullowhee last season. The Catamounts enter league play at 16-9 on the season following a 7-3 home loss to 25
th-ranked Clemson on Wednesday.
