Furman Set To Play In Hootie Intercollegiate Sunday Through Thursday

Harris Barth & Matt Davidson

GREENVILLE, S.C. --  The Furman men's golf team is set to play in the 20th Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate Sunday through Tuesday at the par 70, 7,283 yard Bulls Bay Golf Club in Awendaw, S.C.

"It is always nice playing in Charleston, since we usually have a lot of alumni and fans that can come out and watch us compete," said Furman head coach Matt Davidson, the reigning SoCon Coach of the Year, who is in his eighth year leading the Paladin program.  "Bulls Bay is such a fun course to play.  You have to make some birdies and can let it fly off the tee.  But with the usual wind, it can definitely demand solid and precise iron shots.  We are looking forward to making the trip down there once again."

The Paladins will be joined in the 15-team field by hosts South Carolina, which ranks 43rd nationally, and College of Charleston, Appalachian State, Chattanooga, No. 37 Clemson, Coastal Carolina, East Tennessee State, Florida Gulf Coast, 39th-ranked Kansas, Kent State, Missouri, No. 45 Purdue, West Virginia, and Winthrop.

Furman's lineup for the tournament includes senior Harris Barth, sophomore Ludvig Josefsson, senior Zach Frazer, senior Clark Akers, and redshirt sophomore Walter Anderson.  Freshman Cameron Reed will compete as an individual.

The 54-hole tournament begins at 9 a.m. on Sunday with teams teeing off on No. 1 and No. 10.  The Paladins will tee off on No. 1 starting at 9:27 a.m. and will play in a group with Clemson and Missouri in the tournament's first round.  Admission to the tournament is free and fans are welcome.  Live tournament scoring will be available via Scoreboard by clippd.

Furman opened the 2025-26 season at the Gopher Invitational, where Akers and Frazer each shot 4-over to tie for 20th.  The Paladins surged into eighth place as a team after recording a final-round 284.  Barth then won the individual title at the Bearcat Invitational, marking the first individual victory of his career, with scores of 67-69-68=204, and led Furman with a sixth-place finish at SMU's Trinity Forest Invitational.  The Paladins closed out the fall with a fifth-place finish at the Furman Intercollegiate.

Last week, Josefsson shot even par and tied for 22nd to lead Furman at the Michael A. Marino Classic in Myrtle Beach.
