MACON, Ga. -- Furman swept Mercer, 7-0, Tuesday at the Copelan Tennis Center in Macon, Ga., to remain unbeaten in SoCon play.  

The 66th-ranked Paladins move to 11-4 overall and 3-0 in league matches, while the Bears drop to 7-9 overall and 2-0 in the SoCon. 

Furman won all three doubles matches to take the opening point.  Freshmen Lillie Murphy and Elle Warren, who rank 31st nationally, defeated Marina De Diego Quinones and Ines Homberg, 6-2, at flight one, and freshman Bianca Ceroni and junior Macy Hitchcock defeated Sofiya Tsitavets and Tea Zivic, 6-3, at flight two.  In the number three contest, freshmen Lily Doherty and Molly Robinson recorded a 6-4 victory over Marie Bannmeyer and Antonia Schweigel.

The Paladins won all six singles matches, five in straight sets.  Murphy posted a 6-3, 6-3, advantage over De Diego Quinones in the top-seeded match up, and Warren made quick work of Zivic, 6-1, 6-0, at number two.  At number three, Hitchcock beat Tsitavets, 6-4, 6-2, and Ceroni topped Bannmeyer, 6-3, 6-2, at flight four.  Doherty held off Homberg, 6-3, 3-6, 1-0(10-8) at flight five, and Robinson defeated Valentine Abide Talaki, 6-3, 6-1, at flight six. 

The Paladins will entertain Samford Sunday at 11 a.m. at the Mickel Tennis Center in Greenville, S.C.  The match is part of the ITA College Tennis Weekend powered by CourtReserve.
