Furman, Wofford Split Friday Evening Doubleheader

Paladin Celebrate Senior Day Prior To Saturday's 11 A.M. Series Finale

Greenville, S.C. – Furman and Wofford both rallied from three-run deficits to earn victories as the Paladins and Terriers split a Southern Conference doubleheader 6-4, 5-6 on Friday night at Pepsi Stadium.

The rubber game of the three-game series is set for an 11:05 a.m. first pitch on Saturday and will be streamed live on ESPN+. Fans are encouraged to be in their seats early as Furman honors Sylvia Burroughs and Ansley Chiang, who will be playing their final home game at Pepsi Stadium, prior to the series finale. Admission is free.

Game 1: Furman 6, Wofford 4

Furman erased a 4-1 deficit to claim a 6-4 victory in game one on Friday evening.

Trailing 4-1 entering the bottom of the fifth inning, Chiang started a rally with a leadoff walk and moved to third on a base hit from AB Cipalla. Kristyn Embler followed with a single to center field to drive in Chiang and Cipalla scored on Burroughs' grounder to second base that was mishandled. Rachel Hawkins lifted a sacrifice fly down the left field line to chase Embler home with the tying run.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Chiang ignited another Furman rally with a one-out single before Kate Stoltzfus hit a towering home run over the left field fence to give the Paladins a 6-4 lead. Embler (8-12) worked around a one-out single in the top of the seventh to finish the game and secure the victory. The freshman allowed just one earned run on seven hits over seven innings while walking three Terrier batters.

In addition to her work in the circle, Embler went 3-for-4 at the plate. Stoltzfus went 2-for-4 with a homer and Cipalla finished 2-for-3 with a double.

Abby Greenwood (12-5) absorbed the loss for Wofford after giving up five earned runs on 12 hits in 5.1 innings of work. Brianna Stanley collected three hits, including a double, to lead the Terrier offense.

Game 2: Wofford 6, Furman 5

The Terriers turned the tables on Furman with a rally of their own in game two. The Paladins exploded for five runs in the bottom of the third inning to grab the lead. Stoltzfus delivered a solo home run, Hawkins ripped a two-run double into the gap, and Katie Peeler launch her fourth homer of the season, a two-run blast, to give Furman a 5-2 advantage.

Wofford trimmed the lead to 5-4 with a pair of runs in the top of the fourth inning. Desirae Devine reached on a leadoff triple and scored on Kaytlin Greenwood's groundout before Stanley came through with a two-out, RBI base hit.

The Terriers evened the game in the top of the sixth on Addie Lucier's solo blast. After a scoreless seventh, Kate Platte led off the eighth inning with a single and advanced to third base on a sacrifice bunt. Stanley followed with an infield single to put the Terriers in front, 6-5.

Wofford starter Natalya Salo walked Burroughs to begin the bottom of the eight but retired the next three batters to end the Paladin threat. Salo (9-3) tossed all eight innings and held Furman to five runs on five hits to earn the victory.

Stanley drove in three runs and finished 2-for-4 at the plate while Platte and Rivers Sampson totaled three hits apiece for the Terriers.

Freshman Gwen Hill (0-4) suffered the loss after allowing five earned runs on 12 hits in eight innings in the circle. Peeler led the Paladins with a 2-for-3 performance at the plate.
