Greenville, S.C. – Five members of the Furman softball team were selected to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team, it was announced on Tuesday by the CSC.
Seniors
Sylvia Burroughs and
Ansley Chiang were joined on the all-district squad by sophomores
Rachel Hawkins,
Katie Peeler, and
Kate Stoltzfus.
Burroughs, a native of Melbourne, Fla., and three-time CSC Academic All-District choice, batted .331 with a team-leading nine home runs and 39 RBI this past season. The Paladins' first baseman concluded her career with 23 homers, 128, RBI, and 108 walks. She committed just one error as a senior on 308 chances for a .997 fielding percentage. Burroughs graduated this month with a 3.55 GPA while majoring in computer science.
Chiang, a two-time CSC Academic All-District Team member, started at second base in all three seasons at Furman. A career .240 hitter, she recorded a pair of hits and two stolen bases in a game one victory over Charleston Southern during this season's doubleheader sweep of the Bucs. Chiang graduated with a degree in biology and posted a 3.97 GPA.
Hawkins, who started 49 games at third base in 2026, hit .281 in her second season as a Paladin with 12 doubles, five homers, and 24 RBI. The Miami, Fla., native went 2-for-4 with a grand slam to lead Furman to a win at Mercer as the Paladins claimed the best-of-three series in Macon, Ga. She is a psychology major and sports a 3.57 GPA.
Peeler, a sophomore from Salisbury, N.C., started all 52 games in centerfield for the Paladins while batting .247. She recorded eight doubles, two triples, four home runs, and swiped 11 bases. In addition to her work at the plate, Peeler compiled seven outfield assists and ranked among the national leaders in defensive runs saved, according to 6-4-3 Charts. The health sciences major carries a 3.67 GPA.
Stoltzfus concluded her sophomore season with a .285 batting average, six doubles, two triples, four homers, and 25 RBI. The Fair Play, S.C., native and shortstop also swiped 12 bases on the year and drilled a pair of home runs in Furman best-of-three series victory over Wofford. She boasts a 3.71 GPA and is majoring in educational studies.
Each school was allowed to nominate five softball players for CSC Academic All-District honors. The student-athletes were required to carry a minimum 3.50 GPA and have reached thresholds for games played or started.
