GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Sophomore Lillie Murphy, the reigning SoCon Player of the Year and freshman of the Year, won the flight two singles championship Sunday to lead the Paladins in the final day of the 39th annual Debbie Southern Fall Classic, which was held this weekend at the Mickel Tennis Center in Greenville, S.C.
Murphy, who had already logged victories over players from Maryland and Georgia Tech over the weekend to reach the finals, defeated Amelie Smejkalova of N.C. State, 6-2, 6-4, for the title.
In singles flight four, senior Macy Hitchcock and sophomore Sasha Dimitrov also recorded straight set wins. Hitchcock posted a singles victory for the second-straight day, beating Illinois' Shravani Chennamsetty 7-5, 6-0, and Dimitrov blanked Maryland's Aida Eissa, 6-0, 6-0.
All eight teams that competed in the tournament were ranked in the final 2026 ITA Collegiate Tennis rankings: N.C. State (8), South Carolina (29), Maryland (36), Illinois (48), Wake Forest (59), Georgia Tech (65), Furman (67), and Indiana (70).
Murphy and sophomore Elle Warren, the Debbie Southern Fall Classic flight one doubles champions, will be back in action at the ITA All-American Championships, which are scheduled for Sept. 19-27 in Cary, N.C.
