Paladins Host Furman Invitational At Timmons Arena

GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Furman volleyball team is at Timmons Arena for the first time this week when it hosts the North Carolina A&T Aggies, Presbyterian Blue Hose, and Queens (N.C.) Royals in the Furman Invitational.

The tournament will be held Thursday through Saturday with the Paladins scheduled for one match each day. Furman begins tournament play on Thursday at 6 p.m. against Presbyterian before returning to action Friday at 6 p.m. versus Queens (N.C.). The Paladins conclude tournament play Saturday afternoon facing North Carolina A&T at 2 p.m.

Fans can follow the action on www.furmanpaladins.com via live stats. The contests Thursday and Friday are being streamed via paid subscription on ESPN+. Updates will be posted on the Furman volleyball Twitter page (@FurmanVB).

Single-game tickets for the Furman Invitational are available at $10 with groups being able to purchase tickets at $5. A Purple Party Pack is also on sale for $21. Kids 12 years and younger receive free admission.

VB Furman Invitational Promotions

Furman (1-2) opened its season last weekend at the Classic City Clash in Athens, Ga. The Paladins collected their second straight season-opening victory with a 3-2 win versus George Washington before dropping a pair of four-set decisions to North Florida and Georgia.

In the win over George Washington, Izzy Castelloe led three Furman players in double figures with 14 kills while Kacie Moore and Amber Watson both provided 10. Emily Navarro recorded a double-double with 31 assists and 12 digs while Morgan Baldridge dished out 17 assists. Defensively, Kennedy Seekford tied a match high with 20 digs and Rebekah Buchholz compiled five blocks.

Castelloe and Watson both had a team high 10 kills apiece in the North Florida contest with Baldridge and Navarro both adding 19 assists. Ashtan Dodson had a team best 16 digs and Seekford added 15. Moore collected three blocks.

The defeat to Georgia saw Castelloe fall one kill shy of matching her career high after leading the Paladins with 18 on .350 hitting. Watson poured in seven kills and Moore six. Navarro turned in another double-double on 25 assists and 13 digs. Seekford tallied a match high 15 digs and Buchholz added two blocks.

Presbyterian enters the tournament with a 3-1 overall record while North Carolina A&T is 2-1 and Queens (N.C.) 0-2. Furman owns a 21-1 advantage in the all-time series against Presbyterian, 5-0 over North Carolina A&T, and 1-0 versus Queens (N.C.).

The Paladins travel to Buies Creek, N.C., next weekend, September 11-12, to face Stetson, Ball State, and Campbell in the Fairfield Inn and Suites Dunn Campbell Invitational.
