Davidson, N.C. – Davidson's Ayman Maadir delivered a game-tying free kick with just 3:37 remaining to help the Wildcats earn a 2-2 draw with Furman in men's soccer action Friday night at Alumni Soccer Stadium.
The Wildcats (0-0-4) opened the scoring at 13:18 on Matthew Thissell's right-footed strike into the lower left-hand corner from nearly 30 yards out. Furman answered just 61 seconds later.
Braden Dunham's long throw was flicked towards the far post where sophomore
Wilfer Bustamante poked a shot into the top shelf to level the match at the 15
th minute.
Furman (1-1-3) took the lead less than two minutes into the second half on
Landon Hill's first goal of the season. A scramble took place in the box following
Diego Hernandez's corner kick. The ball fell to
Ryan Wagner who laid off a pass for Hill to fire through traffic for the score at 46:12.
Bustamante missed a chance to double the lead midway through the half with a shot off the post and
Ivan Horvat denied Davidson an equalizer with a leaping save before Maadir evened the match in the final minutes. The Wildcats earned a free kick near the top of the box and Maadir lined a free kick over the wall and into the upper right-hand corner at 86:23.
Davidson finished with a 12-11 edge in total shot attempts while Furman posted a 7-6 advantage in shots on goal. Horvat posted four saves in goal for the Paladins and Lucas Beltran totaled five stops for the Wildcats.
Furman returns to action when it plays host to Gardner-Webb at Stone Soccer Stadium on Wednesday, September 9, at 6 p.m.
