Philadelphia, Pa. – Furman's Matt
Broome fired a four-under 66 to grab a two-stroke lead and help the
Paladins to a six-stroke advantage after one round at the Big 5
Invitational at the Plymouth Country Club in Philadelphia, Pa., on
Saturday.
The junior, a native of Barrington, R.I., recorded five birdies
and shot a 32 on the front nine to take the lead over Peter
Williamson of Dartmouth and three-stroke edge over third place Tom
McCarthy of Yale. Paladin sophomore Matt Brown shot an
even-par 70 to take a share of fourth place while Johnny
Kyger's first round 72 helped him into 13th place.
J.B. Murphy added a five-over 75 for the Paladins, while junior
Anthony Aloi posted an opening round 76.
The Paladins, who finished at three-over 283, hold a six-stroke
lead over second place Princeton with Villanova and Campbell tied
for third place at 291.
The second and final round of the Big 5 Invitational is set to
tee-off at 7:30 a.m. on Sunday morning.
