Greenville, S.C. – The Virginia Tech Hokies posted a one-under par 287 on Saturday to pull into a first place tie with Kennesaw State at four-under 572 after two rounds of the 42nd Annual Furman Intercollegiate at the par-72, 6,994-yard Furman University Golf Club.
Garland Green fired a four-under 72 to help the Hokies (-4) pull even with Owls (-4) while Ben Greene led Kennesaw State to a second round 290 with a two-under par 70. Clemson (E) is in third place just four strokes behind the leaders with East Carolina (+3) and Purdue (+7) rounding out the top five. Gardner-Webb and Furman (+8) are tied for sixth place after 36 holes.
First round leader William Sjaichudin (65-69=134) of Purdue maintained the tournament lead with a three-under par 69 on Saturday to move to 10-under for the weekend. East Carolina's Harold Varner (67-70=137) is three stroke back in second place with Green (71-68=139) holding third place.
Four Paladins recorded rounds of 73 or better on Saturday to help Furman (296-288=584) move from seventh place to sixth place. Matt Brown (-1) led the charge with a one-under 71 while Matt Broome and Johnny Kyger each shot 72. J.B. Murphy (-3), playing as an individual, posted a 67 to grab a share of seventh place.
Final round action is slated to tee-off on Sunday at 8 a.m. Furman will tee-off of No. 10 beginning at noon while the tournament leaders will tee-off from No. 1 beginning at 1:10 p.m.
