Furman In 12th Place At Linger Longer Invitational

Greensboro, Ga. – J.B. Murphy posted a one-over 73 and Greg Carrier carded a 74 to lead Furman during the second round of the Linger Longer Invitational at the par-72 Reynolds Plantation-Great Waters Golf Course on Monday morning.

Murphy, a Columbia, S.C., native, improved on an opening round 79 by notching a birdie at No. 13 and recording an eagle at the par-five No. 2.  Carrier tallied two birdies over his first eight holes on his way to a two-over 74 that moved the Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., native into the top 40 after two rounds.

Junior Anthony Aloi (72-76=148) shot four-over 76 and holds a share of 20th place entering the final round of the 54-hole tournament.

The University of Alabama (-14) shot a 10-under 278 on Monday to open up an 11-stroke lead on first round co-leader Chattanooga (-1).  Stanford (-1), Georgia (+4) and Florida State (+8) round out the top five in the 13-team field that includes five of the top-50 ranked teams in the nation.  Furman (+35) is in 12th place after 36 holes.

The Crimson Tide's Corey Whitsett (64-68=132) continues to lead the tournament at 12-under par.  He holds a five-stroke advantage on teammate Bud Cauley (-7) who moved into second place with a 7-under 65 on Monday.

Final round action is slated to get underway on Tuesday at 8:30 a.m.
