Furman 12th After Opening Day At 14th Annual Cleveland Palmetto Intercollegiate

Aiken, S.C. – The Furman (306-286=592) men's golf team recorded rounds of 306 and 286 on Monday to hold 12th place after two rounds at the 14th Annual Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate at the par-70 Palmetto Golf Club in Aiken, S.C.

After struggling to a +22 round of 306 in the morning, Matt Brown and Matt Broome each carded rounds of even-par 70 and Anthony Aloi posted a two-over 72 to rally Furman from a share of 15th place up to 12th place.

The University of Alabama (288-277=565) holds a four-stroke lead over Liberty (285-284=569) after two rounds with Virginia, Clemson and first round leader Chattanooga rounding out the top five in the 18-team tournament through 36 holes.

Alabama's Bud Cauley fired back-to-back rounds of 66 to take a six-stroke advantage over the field.  Liberty's Preston Dembowiak (70-68=138) and Clemson's Crawford Reeves (69-69=138), brother of Furman's Austin Reeves, are tied for second place.  Brown currently leads the Paladins holding a share of 32nd place.

The Paladins are scheduled to tee-off from the back nine for Tuesday's final round action beginning at 10:40 a.m.
