Box Score GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Freshman Courtney Freeman recorded a double-double with 16 points and 10 boards to lead Appalachian State to a 78-63 win over Furman Saturday afternoon in women's basketball action at Timmons Arena.
Junior Anna Freeman paced the Mountaineers with 22 points, while rookie Maryah Sydnor added an additional 20 points for Appalachian State (13-5, 9-1 SoCon).
Furman (11-9, 7-4 SoCon) was led by freshman Brittany Hodges, who tallied 21 points and nine rebounds. Rookie Sarah Durdaller added 12 points, and junior Teshia Griswold had 10 points for the Paladins.
The Mountaineers held the Paladins to just six points over the final six minutes of the first half to hold a 37-28 halftime advantage. A layup by Courtney Freeman at the 9:22 mark of the second half gave Appalachian State its largest lead of the day, 66-45, before Furman went on a 12-0 run to cut the lead to 66-57.
Furman came within seven points of the Mountaineers at 3:03 when a layup by Hodges sliced the advantage to 68-61, but Appalachian State went on a 8-0 run over the next two minutes to seize control of the game, 76-61.
Furman will play at Davidson Monday at 7 p.m.
