MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – The College of Charleston won the top four singles flights to slip past Furman, 4-3, Wednesday in women's tennis action at the CofC Tennis Center at Patriots Point in Mt. Pleasant, S.C.  

The Cougars (13-8, 5-1 SoCon) took a quick doubles lead, as Irene Viana and Brooke McAmis combined for an 8-3 win over junior Margaret Boyette and sophomore Kelly Sullivan at flight three, but the Paladins answered with a victory at flight one, as the duo of senior Lauren Kline and sophomore Alex Moreno-Kaste topped Kelly Kambourelis and Jenny Falcone, 8-4. 

Furman senior Michele Stanford and junior Amanda Murray outlasted Christin Newman and Samantha Maddox, 9-7, in the decisive second doubles contest to clinch the opening point.

In singles action, Kambourelis posted a 6-3, 6-0 win over Moreno-Kaste at number two to put College of Charleston on the board, and McAmis defeated junior Katherine Oudin, 6-0, 6-3 in the flight three match-up to give the Cougars a 2-1 lead.  Murray tied the score at 2-all with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Maddox at flight five, before Falcone regained the Cougar advantage with a 7-6, 6-2 win versus Stanford.  Newman clinched the win at flight one, defeating Kline, 7-5, 6-4. 

Sullivan came from behind to score for the Paladins in the final match of the day, notching a 4-6, 6-2, 7-7 win versus Olivia McMillan at flight six.

Furman (9-7, 5-1 SoCon) begins its final home-stand of the season Saturday, when the Paladins entertain UNC Greensboro at 1 p.m. at the Mickel Tennis Center.
