Box Score

Buies Creek, N.C. – Devon Horine scored five goals, including the game winner with just five seconds left in overtime, to lead the Paladins past Campbell, 11-10, on Friday afternoon. The win moves the Paladins to 3-0 in their inaugural season, while the Camels fall to 0-3.

In addition to her team-high five goals, Horine also added six ground balls and three draw controls on the afternoon. Meg Lingo and Paige Gamble each added two goals, while Ashley Trice and Britt Douglass netted one each. Maggie Friel notched seven saves and moved to 3-0 on the season.

Campbell was led by Loren Day with four goals on 11 shots, and a team-high four draw controls. Goalie Merredith Bechler totaled five saves for the Camels.

The game was tight from the opening whistle, with the teams trading goals until, with the score tied 2-2, Lingo and Gamble each turned in a goal to push the Furman lead to 4-2 with 9:14 left in the half. Campbell came roaring back, however, and used three-straight goals to take a 5-4 lead into halftime.

The teams traded goals to start the second half, until Furman regained the lead at 7-6 on Lingo's second goal of the day. The Camels and the Paladins continued to trade goals until, with the Paladins leading 9-8, Campbell scored with 27 seconds remaining to tie the game at nine and send it to overtime.

Britt Douglass scored 1:43 into the overtime period to put the Paladins back on top 10-9, but Campbell would again draw even with just 14 seconds remaining to tie the score at 10. The game seemed to be heading into a second overtime period, but Devon Horine scored her fifth goal of the day with just five seconds left to give the Paladins the 11-10 victory.

Furman is back in action on Sunday morning, hosting Fresno State in a 10:00 a.m. matchup in Paladin Stadium.
